Important Info
ATTENTION ALL FLEET MANAGERS
For Fleet Managers with small or large fleets there seems to be ever changing legislation that affects your role.
From the latest tax changes, new laws from the European Union, the Corporate Manslaughter Act to the updated Highway code. There are constant challenges to keep up to date.
And while the amount of legislation increases, the penalties for failing to act increase as well, with the threat of fines and even appearances in court backing up many of these laws.
The result is a lot of added pressure on employers to ensure that employees who have company cars are properly trained and also have the right resources to carry out their roles effectively.
Fleet Risk and safety management means that companies will create a crash free culture which will ensure compliance with duty of care legislation as specified by the HSE, avoiding any danger of criminal prosecution or civil litigation. In so doing there will be brand image benefits, plus insignificant cost saving of as much as 20% per annum on fleet insurance premiums.
YOUR LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Managing the risks to employees who drive at work requires more than just compliance with road traffic legislation
The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974² requires you to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of all employees while at work. You also have a responsibility to ensure that others are not put at risk by your work -related driving activities (Self-employed people have a similar responsibility to that of employers.)
Under the Management of Healthy and Safety at Work Regulations 1999³ you have a responsibility to manage health and safety effectively. You need to carry out an assessment of the risks to the health and safety of your employees while they are at work, and to other people who may be affected by their work activities. The Regulations require you to periodically review your risk assessment so that it remains appropriate.
There will always be risks associated with driving. Although these cannot be completely controlled an employer has a responsibility to take all reasonable steps to mange these risks down to as low a level as reasonably possible in the same way as they would the workplace
How can we help you
We can offer a Web-based fleet risk management tool that uses the latest web technologies to assess drivers’ competency levels, and helps you meet your company’s health and safety duty of care obligations.
This unique tool will give a valuable insight into the risk levels of your company drivers, and will help to implement a strategy to minimise accidents.
Drivers can be tested for their hazard perception, driving theory, attitude and Highway Code Knowledge.
We can then offer online driver training exercises if your drivers do not come up to scratch, which will improve your drivers knowledge and ensure your company is fulfilling its legal requirements.
