Are you having trouble obtaining finance.
If this is the case please see below for some information we hope you will find useful.
Whether you are a business or personal customer, if you want to lease a car you will have to go through a credit check, your details will be sent to an underwriter and they will request your details from one of the credit reference agencies so they can obtain your credit score.
Usually it is the case that if you have been refused credit in the past for a new car lease or refused credit for car finance it will be due to having a low credit score, or a not so perfect credit history, you may even have high debts and the amount of income you are bringing in does not cover this.
Some of the Main reasons you may have a poor credit rating: -
• You have not kept up your payments on a credit card or Mortgage.
• To pay off all your debts you have taken on an (IVA) Individual Voluntary Agreement
• For a non-payment of debt you have County Court Judgements or CCJs
• You may have gone into default on a Loan (this may not have gone to court)
• You have been declared Bankrupt
What if I have never had credit?
This might seem a bit strange to you that you have never had credit so how can you have a bad credit history. But if you have a proven credit history where you have kept up repayments then this shows you are a responsible borrower, they would like to see this rather than having no credit history at all.
We have listed some of the main reasons why credit may have been refused to you in the past:-
• You fall into the category of one of the points we have made above
• You may not have a regular income or be in full time employment.
• You may have a low income that would not support the application.
• You have had numerous address changes in the last few years.
• Your employment has changed in the last few years a number of times.
• You have not been a UK resident and have no credit history here.
• You have started a new business and have not been trading long, no accounts.
• You cannot be found on the Electoral Roll.
• You are not yet 18 years of age.
What can I do next?
We would suggest that the first thing you do is have a look at your credit file from one of the main credit reference agencies. We have provided some links for your information:
Experian: www.experian.co.uk
Credit Expert: www.creditexpert.co.uk
Equifax: www.equifax.co.uk
Please note that each may hold different information about your credit history and they will normally charge you a small amount when you request your file.
Important Information for you to read
When you are put up for finance and declined this will leave a mark on your file, so do not try sending your file to lots of funders this will only make your credit file worse.
The best policy is to be upfront with the finance company if you know of any issues with your credit history, that way they can either be upfront and let you know they cannot help or they may have a route with a sub prime funder and can talk this through with you at the time.
